Welcome to the HySA/Catalysis website
HySA Catalysis is one of the three Centres of Competence that form part of the South African Department of Science and Technology’s National Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Technologies Flagship project, branded as Hydrogen South Africa (HySA). The overall aim is to transform South Africa from a resource based economy to a knowledge based economy and in doing so add high value to the country’s mineral wealth. The overarching commercial and academic goals of HySA/Catalysis include:
Commercial
- Establish SA as major global exporter of catalysts and fuel cell components
- Develop fuel cell supply chain in South Africa with local manufacturing partners
Academic
- Internationally recognised fuel cell and hydrogen research institute
- Human capital development - knowledge pool of South African engineers and scientists for the fuel cell industry
HySA Catalysis’ mandate includes the components in the early part of the fuel cell and hydrogen value chain, namely catalysts and catalytic devices. HySA Catalysis is co-hosted by the Institute for Catalysis Research at the University of Cape Town and South Africa’s national mineral research organisation, Mintek.
